Delicious Danone Yogurt Nutri Pots

Who says healthy food cannot be tasty food? Lets give yogurt a chance this time. Yoghurt is full for calcium and loaded with protein. It is also beneficial for Gut health and is good for lactose intolerant people. This new Greek Yogurt launched by DanoneIndia has 87% more protein than regular yogurts, introduced in mango and blueberry variants. At the  product launch Chef Varun Imandar churned up three healthy recipes that were delicious, the instant Parfait left me aghast and motivated to try something  of my own.   

It was now time to churn up a new recipe that fills you with great taste while being high in nutrient value.
Danone Nutri Pots ( A yogurt based sprouts and strawberry filled puri)

The basic Ingredients

This recipe will serve up two plates of Yogurt Nutri pots of 6 puris each


Ingredients

1 cup of sprouts (boiled with salt, add pinch of pepper)
1 cup chopped strawberry
1 tub Blueberry Greek Yogurt (80 grams)
20  Puffed puris (Pani puri available in market)
1 tsp Honey
A dash or lime.

Method 

1. Mix the sprouts, chopped strawberries, honey and lime in a bowl.
2. Add the yogurt and give it a good mix.
3. Crack the top of the puri and full in the yogurt mixture.
4. Garnish with cut strawberries.

Tip- Serve it chilled and immediately. Soggy puris wont be all that enjoyable. With the mango season round the corner, I am going to try the Mango Greek Yogurt with mango pieces. I think this is gonna be a runaway hit for sure.

Happiness is something that everybody wants but is misunderstood by many people. Happiness cannot be given to you on a platter,  it is an intentional state of being that comes about as a result of practice and conscious effort. If you want to be happy, you will be happy no matter what the circumstances around you are.

Thankfully, effort does not always mean hard work! Happiness comes at the price of small and pleasant habits that can easily be integrated into your life. Stop thinking only of bad things, get rid of your fears, try to be an optimist. Avoid negative topics for discussing. Don’t watch bad news on TV all the time. All this can make you depressed and not happy at all.

Sure, you know exercise is good for you. It keeps your weight in check, makes you stronger, and keeps you feeling youthful and staying active into old age.But did you know that exercise can also make you a happier person? It’s true.

Spend some time alone. It’s a good chance to think over your problems, to analyze your work, make plans for the future.

I figured out that worrying only gives you wrinkles and grey hair. Hate it when my heart beats fast, palpitating and giving me an intense rush of negative thoughts. I rather laugh at myself and make others around me happy. So try out my tried and tested ways to be hap happ happy. 🙂

Wonder combination of Honey and Cinnamon

The combination of honey and cinnamon has been used for centuries in both traditional Chinese and Ayurveda, a system of healing founded 5000 years ago in India. The two ingredients with unique healing abilities have a long history as a home remedy. Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known to mankind and honey’s popularity has continued throughout history

Honey and cinnamon are both nutritious foods and contain vitamins and minerals that help to maintain good health. They contain nutrients which include water, protein, fiber, sugars and various vitamins and minerals. Cinnamon also contains a very low level of fat.

1) HEART DISEASES: Apply honey and cinnamon powder on bread instead of using jam or butter and eat it regularly for breakfast. It is believed that in the long run, this can help prevent blockages in blood vessels, heart attacks and cholesterol.

2) ARTHRITIS: Apply a paste made of the two ingredients on the affected part of the body and massage slowly. Drinking tea with honey and cinnamon daily can also help relieve pain and stiffness in the joints.

3) HAIR LOSS: Apply a paste of hot olive oil, a tablespoon of honey, a teaspoon of cinnamon powder before bath, leave it for 15 min and wash.

4) BLADDER INFECTIONS: Mix a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and half a teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink. This can help destroy the bacteria in the urinary system.

5) CHOLESTEROL: Add honey to cinnamon powder mixed in boiled water or green tea and drink.

6) COLDS: Make a glass of lukewarm honey water mixed with a pinch of cinnamon powder to help boost your immune system during the cold season. It is also helpful in clearing the sinuses.

7) INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on a spoonful of honey taken before food relieves acidity and prevents indigestion.

8) LONGEVITY: Regularly take tea made with honey and a little cinnamon powder to strengthen your immune system and protect your body from viral and bacterial attacks.

9) PIMPLES: Mix honey with cinnamon powder and apply paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash away the next morning.

10) BAD BREATH: Gargle with honey and cinnamon powder mixed in warm water so that breath stays fresh throughout the day.

Start losing that extra weight.

I really don’t understand how a few cookies here and a small chocolate doughnut there, is causing the weighing machine to display that I have gained a few pounds.

Off lately I have been eating tremendous amount of junk food and giving into my sweet cravings. The little weight I piled up looked cute on my face but not around my hips. However when I had a setback in the month of August with a terrible knee injury, I knew I will have to get my diet under control. Being advised 10 days bed rest I decided to embark on my weight loss journey again.

I have always believed in eating right food and combining it with a good exercise regime. Here are a few tips I am going to follow while I try to lose weight.

Tips to Follow

  1. Eat more fibrous foods.
  2. Reduce the intake of carbohydrates
  3. Eat healthier fats
  4. A workout regime in your schedule is a must.
  5. Get rid of Junk
  6. Eat smaller portions
  7. Eat in smaller plates.
  8. Cook your own meals if possible.
  9. Drink more water
  10. Don’t Give Up

    I was used to drinking water throughout the day, but not in any planned way, and sometimes skipped the water a lot of the days. I  stumbled upon an interesting read by Steven Aitchison on how to lose weight in 10 days while using water as a weapon.
    It said ” How to lose 10 pounds in ten days” and here is the link to this tried and tested experiment I was going to undertake.

    Here is the simple yet effective way to do it.

    Time How much
    As soon as you get up each morning Drink between 300 – 600ml of water
    1 hour later (before breakfast) Drink between 250 – 500ml of water
    After every cup of coffee/tea Drink between 100 – 250ml of water
    20 Minutes before each main meal Drink between 250 – 500ml of water
    2 Hours before going to bed Drink between 300 – 600ml of water
    Total amount of water per day Between 1200 – 2,450ml

    Initially you will feel like frequenting the washroom too often but later your body will get use to it. Get ready to  reap the benefits of a fitter happier you 🙂

    Benefits of Water

    1.Drinking plenty of water is also great for your skin.  It flushes out all the impurities which will leave you with a glow and you  looking younger and healthier.

    2. Drinking lots of water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat.

    3. If you eat a lot of salt, drinking plenty water helps flush out the extra sodium from the kidneys.

    4. Water helps flush out waste from the bladder. Your urine should be light and odourless, if it is dark and has a strong odour it could indicate a problem in the bladder or kidneys and water helps this.

    5.Water, believe it or not, helps reduce water retention. Water retention is your body’s way of storing water if it thinks you are not getting enough, drinking plenty of water reduces this.

    6.  It can help freshen your breath. Dehydration can cause a dry tongue leading to a furry tongue which aids bacteria build up. Plenty water reduces this risk.

    I could go on and on about the benefits of water but I think you get the gist of what I am saying. Obviously there will evidence to the contrary but from a personal point of view I would recommend drinking plenty of water. So, why you still here? Get into the kitchen and gulp down that glass of water 🙂

Winter Goodness – Recipe for Bajra ka Laddoo

Thats the school bell.
Its 10.30 Am, time for a mid-morning snack for everyone. I am quite hungry by now and quickly take out my tiffin box just like the kids of my class.  I had carried a brown bread chutney sandwich that day as I try to eat healthy. My co teacher Ms Shabana showed me something very interesting she had brought in her box that day. Her aunty had prepared this special winter dish that  looked like a laddu but not a sweet one. It was a lasan and bajra atta laddoo. I had a small bite to taste and I must say that my tastebuds popped with pleasure. Hence SweetAnnu decided to research this recipe and do a blogpost after making it the very next day. 🙂

Lasan(Garlic) & Bajra( Millet)  Laddoo

This is a very old recipe from Gujarat. It is a very rustic and simple dish that is generally made during winter – when it is cold, because all ingredients are ‘hot’ for the body. The main two ingredients are green garlic which is fresh tasting, much milder than mature garlic.  Bajra is also had in winters. This combination was simply superb. These laddoos are generally eaten with curd and baingan bharta (eggplant)

Ingredients
1. 3-4 chappatis  – made from 3 cups of millet flour and water.
2.1 cup finely chopped green garlic.
3. 2- 3 tablespoons ghee. I used GITS Pure Ghee.
( the diet conscious can use olive oil)
4. Salt to taste.

Method
1. Break the chappatis  and grind into fine crumbs in a mixer.
2. Heat the ghee in a large pan, fry the garlic for a few seconds only,
do not overcook it.
3. Add the ground mixture and mix with the ghee and lasan.
4. Add half cup water and cook till its looks like dough.
5. Remove from heat, let it cool , and shape into meduim size balls.
6. Serve hot with curd, raita or aubergine bhurta.

I think this can be easily stored in an airtight container for few days. Need to heat on eating. An easy recipe for winters, 100% you will love making and relishing this dish.  Thank you Shabana for sharing the recipe with me. 🙂 🙂

The dreaded Dengue

Last year in the month of August, I developed shivers and severe body ache, not knowing what was happening to my body I kept having antibiotics to curb the fever. My doctor suggested a blood test and yes, SweetAnnu was diagnosed with Dengue. Recovered now but the thought of that period of time when I suffered this dreaded virus only sends shivers down my spine.I hope and pray none of my family; friends and readers ever have to go through this.

What is dengue?
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an infected female Aedes mosquito. Symptoms appear in 3–14 days (average 4–7 days) after the infective bite. Dengue fever is a flu-like illness that affects infants, young children and adults.
According to health officials the most common symptoms are:
• FEVER – around 40°C
• WEAKNESS – intense fatigue
• HEADACHE
• PAIN IN THE BODY – behind the eyes and joints
• RED SPOTS ON SKIN


Prevention is better than cure

When I gave a lecture about dengue in my school to spread awareness, the children came up with interesting ways to protect themselves from mosquitoes. One kid wanted to send all mosquitoes to the planet of Mars while another said it was more dangerous than a tiger.However I explained to them in an easy way how we can protect ourselves against dengue fever by taking the following precautions:
• Prevent mosquito breeding inside and outside your home
• Avoid visiting areas prone to mosquitoes
• Apply mosquito repellant lotion to exposed skin and/or clothing.
• Wear long-sleeves and long pants to cover your arms and legs.• Use mosquito nets while sleeping.
• Guard against bites by using a mosquito coil in the house or in open areas like a veranda.
• One can use Aerosol , electric liquid, coils to save one self from bites.

• Dengue-carrying mosquitoes breed in stagnant water so remove or throw away any standing water.

I have recently developed a taste for kiwi. Being a food blogger I  find it being used in more often in drinks, desserts and salads. Having received a box of Fresh good quality Kiwi I decided to make a Kiwi drink.

Tired from work or after a workout one can fix this Kiwi Kooler in a jiffy. Kiwi kooler, the beautiful light green colour looking drink is very refreshing. Best served with lots of ice and crushed mint leaves.

1. Take three green ripe Kiwis, scoop the pulp and whisk it in a mixer until pulpy.
2. Add the lemonade and crushed mint leaves to a tall glass with ice and give it a good stir.
3. Garnish with lemon. Add pepper or Chaat masala for that added spice ( optional)
4. If Lemonade not available in house, one can use fresh lemon juice and sugar syrup. Add according to your taste.
Your Kiwi Kooler is ready.

THE CHOCO CHIP COOKIE-

I was very impressed by the Chocolate chip cookies. It was a huge circle of heavenly richness. However these cookies are not laden with refined sugar. The ingredients for cookies are  Oats flour, almond flour, whole wheat flour, organic brown sugar, butter, eggs and nothing else. It had that special flavour and were so freshly baked. Each bite had an added  sweet smile on my face. They crumbled and melted away in the mouth instantly. Yes now isn’t that the guilt- free indulgence I promised? Hang on there is more 🙂

THE CRANBERRY COOKIE
This cookie was unique with cranberries and nuts popping out of it to tease me. I had it the next day with a cup of coffee. It was not too sweet, just as I like my cookies to be. I especially liked the added crunch of Almond and enjoying chewing on it till it melted. The taste lasts quite a while and you can easily be satisfied by two cookies and feel quite full  🙂

ROCKSTARS – ROCK CRUNCH
I tried out the Maple Variant first, loved the crunchy texture and felt happy instantly, having my favourite type of snack but not getting guilty over it. Salty and sweet this Rock Crunch is an awesome treat for my family. However the Dark Chocolate variant will be a hit with the kids. This can be given to them coz its laden with goodness of oats, almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, honey, organic brown sugar, maple syrup and salt. So you read right!! There is NO MAIDA at all.
