As a pre-school teacher I am always on the look out for new , easy and interesting ideas to develop fine -motor skills in children ,yet keep them entertained and busy . Fine Motor activities are often just categorized as Sand play, Block play , Clay play and Painting . However there is a lot more innovative ideas a teacher can encourage and get children to explore with their fingers to develop this skill .
I searched the net and found a few ideas worth sharing to young moms and pre school teachers
This is a simple activity where clothes pegs are given to children to squeeze and pin up small clothing on a given clothesline . here they are enjoyin g the activity and enhancing their pincer muscles . Clothes of Barbie or small dolls can be used alternating with clothes cut out of felt or scrap cloth . Expense – Very minimal
2.Plate Sewing .
Take a thermocol plate and punch a few holes in it. Take a piece of yarn attach it to a plastic needle and let each child go up and down making different patterns with the yarn . An excellent activity for eye hand co ordination too
3. Fun with Droppers
You need to ask parents and source out eyedroppers or medicine droppers for yr next activity . A dropper needs precision to be pressed and this skill is not mastered easily by all ,however very enjoyable as it included color and water
4. Insect Wrapping
I found this activity best of all. Here a child is given some creepy crawlies and is asked to wind a piece of yarn arround it . At first maybe the child will need help but later he is master this skill and enjoy it thoroughly .
